Locally-Owned Sister Restaurants Persevere Through Hospitality Crisis, Re-Invent Themselves for the World of Covid-19

As businesses shutter their windows, four locally-owned restaurants persevere to deliver the same quality experiences under different circumstances.

The restaurant family of Luna Red, Novo Restaurant & Lounge, Robin’s Restaurant, & Mint + Craft has been around for years (30+ years for Robin’s) and experienced tribulations from 9/11 to the market crash of ‘08. Now, the Covid-19 crisis and economic downturn are further proving owners Robin Covey & Shanny Covey’s resilience and responsiveness to such events.

In a matter of weeks, creekside Novo Restaurant & Lounge was transformed into an artisanal bodega specializing in farmer’s market-fresh produce, house-made goods, freshly baked desserts & more. That grocer has since moved to Luna Red and expanded to become ‘The Marketplace at Luna Red’, causing a trip to the grocery to be stress-free and beneficial to the local community. The Marketplace has created a center for artisanal global items, ranging from Spanish to Middle Eastern inspiration. Moving forward, they plan on increasing the amount of specialty house-made items.

The Eatery at Luna Red features a global menu, small plates, and award-winning paella under the direction of grassroots Chef Shaun Behrens. Located in the backyard of the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, this craft-casual eatery is open daily from 8a-8p for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Novo is now offering its iconic global cuisine creekside again for limited dine-in service. The youngest restaurant, Mint + Craft, has shifted its focus to offering barista drinks with a grab and go menu. Robin’s Restaurant in Cambria has just re-opened for limited dine-in service. All locations are implementing safety measures such as requiring staff to wear masks, mandatory employee health screenings,  socially-distanced tables, & more.
